Where To Apply For A Credit Card

It used to be an easy decision to make but the number of companies now able to offer a credit a card has increased dramatically and as a consequence trying to chose between them has become difficult. Applying for a credit card should be something that you take seriously and as such the information presented here will help you choose one that will be suitable for your own situation.

Students for example generally have different needs to those in full time work so will look for a credit card that has other benefits suited to their current situation. Applications when you are a student to the bank where the account is held aren’t often refused but it is always best to check in advance to save any possible problems later.

It is quite common nowadays to get people to apply for a credit card with the offer of a low APR or annual percentage rate for a set period of time. This interest rate is based on the amount of interest you will pay on any outstanding balance over a year; some of course offer a zero rate on transfers only for a period of six to nine months where it will revert to that standard rate.

Some people consider a applying for a credit card if they are looking to purchase something new or expensive and if that is the case then you need to pay more attention the Annual Percentage Rate. At this point you would be wise to see if there is a grace period on the credit card you are applying for and see how much different the annual percentage rate for purchases is compared to balance transfers.

Wherever possible it is a good idea to apply for a credit card that operates a grace period as it provides you with a specified period of time when the interest charges are not payable. Most credit card companies operate a system where they start charging for finance on the credit card as soon as it is used whereas others ensure the monthly statement is sent out two weeks before the payment is due so interest charges can be avoided.

Of course interest rates are not as important as the grace period for those people who apply for a credit card and always pay there balance off immediately but without the grace period they will always owe additional interest not shown on the balance. Other fees also need to be considered though like membership, late payment charges, fees for cash advances or if you exceed you limit.

Whilst not an immediate concern for most people when they apply for a credit card; customer services facilities suddenly become very important when you have your card stolen or it is lost so how good is the company in these circumstances. One benefit that attracts the frequent flyers is the addition of air miles although this is not something that appeals to everyone.

Many people just sign the pre-approved card that comes in the mail when they apply for a credit card but you should really shop around with the number of deals available it is not always to your advantage to choose the first one that comes along.
